New Partners Announced for Program Serving Lowcountry Veterans
SCServes–Lowcountry, which connects local veterans to human services providers, is set to announce a new partnership with Joint Base Charleston.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (Jan. 23, 2016) – Joint Base Charleston and SCServes – Lowcountry are coordinating their efforts in support of a network of area human service providers to efficiently manage service requests for service members, veterans and military families.
SCServes – Lowcountry is part of AmericaServes, a national effort led by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University with support from the Walmart Foundation. By linking local providers, the program is designed to ensure that quality referrals are made which in turn greatly reduce denial of services experienced by service members and veterans due to capacity or eligibility restrictions. AmericaServes networks, currently in eight major American communities, have connected nearly 4,000 individuals to more than 6,300 types of comprehensive services in the past two years alone.
The addition of Joint Base Charleston greatly expands the reach of the network. “As a network provider, Joint Base Charleston will enhance the relationship between community providers and the Department of Defense’s federally funded programs to meet the needs of service members, veterans and military families wherever they are in their transition.” said retired Col. James McDonough, Managing Director at the IVMF.
The SCServes – Lowcountry network coordinates service delivery for veterans and the military community across nine South Carolina coastal counties including Berkeley, Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry and Jasper. These counties are home to over 120,000 veterans—more than half of South Carolina’s total veteran population.
Joint Base Charleston Military & Family Support, Chapel, and Education Center provide a variety of programs and services to all military members, all services, guard, Reserve, military retirees, Department of Defense civilians and their eligible family members.

The installation joins the ranks of over 40 federal, state, local government and nonprofit veteran service providers who participate as network providers. The SCServes – Lowcountry coordination center is available by calling a toll-free hotline at 1.855.355.1200. Requests for service can also be submitted directly through the SCServes – Lowcountry website at www.scserves.org.
